SMS Food Drive
The annual SMS food drive is upon us. We will begin collecting food for the Food Bank from homeroom classes starting this Thursday, December 1st and ending on Friday, December 16th. As usual, we will have a friendly competition, and the homeroom class that brings in the most items and the homeroom class that brings in the most pounds of food will be treated to hot chocolate and pastries. Our collective goal is to get a ton (2,000 pounds) of food. A list of what the Food Bank prefers will be given to homeroom teachers, but in general, items must be non-perishable (canned goods or dry goods) that won't spoil. No home-canned food is allowed. Also, the Food Bank does have a need for non-food items like toothpaste, soap, diapers, and baby wipes. Homeroom teachers will send a couple of students down to the counseling center each day with what has been brought in so that it can be counted and weighed. Teachers, if you can bring in a cardboard box and put your name on it to put the day's items in, it would be appreciated.
A couple of reminders are of note for those who like to live dangerously and push the boundaries: bottles of water will not count as food items, and you may not break up bulk-packaged items (like tea bags or sugar packets) to pad your item count :)
The main thing is that this is an opportunity to do some good for fellow members of our community!
